Announcement of 7-SEAS Workshop and field Trip 2023

Dear 7-SEAS participants and those who may be interested,

On behalf of Institute of Geophysics, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (IGP, VAST) and University of Science - VNUHCM, we are pleased to invite you very cordially to attend the 7-SEAS (Seven SouthEast Asian Studies) Workshop, which will be held from 06 to 08 November 2023 in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The major objectives of the workshop are to (1) discuss 7-SEAS activities, including recent experiments and campaigns, (2) overview global and regional networks, for instance, NASA/AERONET and MPLNET, and (3) to report other related regional/local studies in SEA. Meanwhile, the workshop will bring together experts who are interested in pursuing the 7-SEAS project and wish to make definitive plans for research and deployment in the coming years. All participants of previous 7-SEAS activities, and researchers and program managers from environment sciences/studies, meteorology, atmospheric chemistry/physics, remote sensing and instrumentation, are encouraged to participate. The meeting will be in the form of a workshop rather than a scientific conference, with active discussions on the data relate

City tour

At Cu Chi Tunnels

Departure to the Cu Chi tunnel, discover the hidden underground world of the Cu Chi Tunnels and learn how the Vietnamese people survived the harsh conditions of the War.

·        Upon arrival, watch a documentary film (only showed in this place)

·        Experience the thrill of crawling into the tunnels

·        Visit underground bunkers (meeting rooms, hospitals, ammunitions, etc.)

·        See the collection of guns and traps, enormous size of bomb crater

·        See Hoang Cam smokeless kitchen where you can understand how the soliders hide smoke.

·        Then you have a rest, enjoy boiled tapioca with sesame salt. This is the delicious and attractive dishes of Cu Chi Tunnels

After Cu Chi Tunnel, we go ahead to My Tho and have lunch at Con restaurants.

At Mekong Delta

·        Arriving at Thoi Son Islet, visit Honey Bee farm & taste special hot tea from the farm.

·        Take a walking to visit a small village, visit orchards, learn about the typical activities of the Southern garden culture, enjoy Southern Vietnamese chamber music Don Ca Tai Tu, and taste some seasonal fruits.

·        Explore The Mekong River's small canals by rowing sampan.

·        Finally, we will visit the Coconut Candy factory - a famous specialty of Ben Tre, discover how to make coconut candy and try some, ride a horse-drawn carriage on the village road to see the orchards, coconut gardens and observe the local lifestyle.

·        Drive back HCMC late afternoon. End of the tour.
